I Asked an AI to Help Me Build a Record About Human Failure.

It diagnosed the problem better than I did.

"User Error is always the system protecting itself from blame. There's accusation in it. Deflection. And underneath — the quiet horror of being measured and found wrong."

After 40+ years as a composer, I reversed my entire process.

I usually finish a project, then find its title. This time I started with two words — USER ERROR — and built everything outward from that seed, in real-time dialogue with Claude.ai.

The result is not an album. It's a system with states — seven sonic processing states, each a different mode of failure: Boot, Input Not Recognized, Latency, Memory Leak, Fatal Exception, Idle, Restore Point.

No lyrics. No flow. No traditional rhythm — but pulse. Irregular. Biological. The paradox of glitch done right: it should feel more human than clean music, not less.

There is one rule that governs every piece: something must almost resolve — and then not.

// The almost is where the whole project lives.

Built with: Human · Claude.ai · ChatGPT · Meta.ai · Google Flow Music · Perchance.org · Audacity 4 (alpha) · Linux Ubuntu 26.04

The full 45-minute system is free for streaming and download now — cold boot to system termination, meant to be experienced in one sitting.
